Dreams
Here is a neat little poem by Antonio Machado,
a Spanish Poet in the 19th century.

It speaks to our dreams
and the functions of dreams that unfold each night in our lives.

In the first part of the poem,
we see that a dream could be trying to bring something new into our lives
"...a spring is breaking out in my heart...."

In the second part,
a dream might be trying to transform our old failures into something sweet and good
"...sweet honey from my old failures...."

In the third part,
a dream might be trying to bring something powerful, fiery into our lives
and may even cause tears to come to our eyes,
"...a fiery sun was giving light inside my heart...."

In the fourth part, we might recognize the hand of God at work in our dreams.

We can dream some pretty marvelous things at times in our lives.
I personally believe that our dreams are leading us
into those areas that are important for us grow in.
Our dreams are always ahead of us,
pointing the way we should go.
Our dreams work in the night to accomplish what we can't do in the day.
They are marvellous!

In this poem Antonio Machado thinks
that what he is dreaming is all a mistake. "...Marvellous error!"
Yet, it could be that God is at work deeply within him
even while he sleeps....
especially in the areas
he has such  trouble during his waking hours.

Anyway.. I have always enjoyed this poem. It gives me something to think about it....

Last Night

"Last night, as I was sleeping, I dreamt---
                         Marvellous error!---
that a spring was breaking out in my heart.
I said: "Along which secret aqueduct, Oh water,
                       are you coming to me,
water of a new life that I have
                      never drunk?"

Last night, as I was sleeping, I dreamt---
Marvellous error!---
that I had a beehive here inside my heart.
And golden bees were making white combs
and sweet honey from my old failures.

Last night, as I was sleeping, I dreamt---
                                    Marvellous error!---
that a fiery sun was giving light inside my heart.
                             It was fiery
because I felt warmth as from a hearth,
and sun because it gave light
and brought tears to my eyes.

Last night, as I slept, I dreamt---
Marvellous error!---
that it was God I had here inside my heart."

                                                   Antonio Machado

You have become a part of my life---that you even show up while I am sleeping...
Marvellous error! :)))
